Indiana Megan's Law

Named after Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was enacted into federal law in 1995. Megans Law requires that each state develop a procedure for informing the general public when a sexual offender is relocated into their neighborhood.
Megan was merely seven years old when a previous sex offender that lived accross the street from her family, abducted, rapped, and killed her. It was decided that had her family or other residents in the communtiy had been alerted that a repeated sexual predator was housed in their neighborhood, this heinous act would've been avoided. With that in mind, the U.S. Congress passed the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", aka Megan's Law, without any resistance.
Since the law was put into effect, Indiana has gone out of its way to protect its offering the most up to date information relevant to previous sex offenders and their current residency. The bill has confirmed that though sex crimes are still a occuring in this country, acts committed by past offenders are on a regression.
