Indiana Megan's Law

Named after Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was enacted into federal law in 1995. Megans Law demands that every state have a system in place for alerting the public when a sexual offender is relocated into their area.
Megan was just seven years old when a repeat sex offender that lived accross the street from her family, abducted, rapped, and killed her. It was concluded that if her family or other local residents had known that a repeated sexual offender was living amongst them, this assult could've been thwarted. With those thoughts, the U.S. Congress passed the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", also known as Megan's Law, without any resistance.
Since the law was passed, Indiana has strived to protect its offering the most up to date information regarding previous sex offenders and their whereabouts. The legislation has confirmed that though sexual assaults are still a problem in the U.S., crimes committed by past offenders are on a downturn.
