Indiana Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was passed into federal law in 1995. Megans Law demands that all states develop a procedure for notifying the general public when a sexual offender is moves into their area.
Megan was only seven years old when a repeat sexual offender that lived accross the street from her family, kidnapped, violently rapped, and killed her. It was decided that had her family or other local residents had been alerted that a repeated sexual offender was living in their community, this crime would've been avoided. On that train of thought, the U.S. Congress enacted the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", aka Megan's Law, without any protests.
Since the law was passed, Indiana has made it a point to protect its public by providing the most current information regarding previous sex offenders and their whereabouts. The legislation has proven that while sex crimes are still a occuring in the United States, offenses committed by past offenders are on a decline.
The information obtainable with the passing of Megan's Law has proven to be a major advantage in keeping one's family safe from the risk of sexual crimes.
