Indiana Megan's Law

Named after Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was passed into federal law in 1995. Megans Law demands that every state develop a procedure for notifying the public when a sexual offender is moves into their neighborhood.
Megan was just seven years old when a previous sexual offender that lived accross the street from her family, abducted, rapped, and murdered her. It was agreed that had her family or other residents in the communtiy had been alerted that a repeated sexual offender was living in their neighborhood, this assult would have been prevented. On that train of thought, the U.S. Congress legislated the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", aka Megan's Law, without any resistance.
Ever since the law has been passed, Indiana has made it a point to protect its supplying the most recent information relating to convicted sexual offenders and their place of residence. The legislation has confirmed that while sex crimes are still a danger in the United States, acts committed by past offenders are on a downturn.
