Megan was just seven years old when a previously convicted sexual offender that lived accross the street from her family, abducted, rapped, and killed her. It was concluded that if her family or other community members had been alerted that a repeated sexual predator was residing amongst them, this assult would have been prevented. On that train of thought, the U.S. Congress passed the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", nicknamed Megan's Law, without any resistance.
