Indiana Megan's Law

Named after Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was passed into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law requires that each state develop a procedure for alerting local residents when a sexual offender is located in their neighborhood.
Megan was merely seven years old when a previous sex offender that resided accross the street from her family, kidnapped, rapped, and murdered her. It was concluded that if her family or other community members had been alerted that a convicted sexual offender was living in their neighborhood, this crime could've been thwarted. On that train of thought, the U.S. Congress legislated the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", nicknamed Megan's Law, without any objections.
Ever since the law was enacted, Indiana has gone out of its way to protect its supplying the most up to date information relevant to past sexual offenders and their place of residence. The bill has proven that while sexual assaults are still a problem in the United States, crimes committed by previous offenders are on a downturn.
The information obtainable through the institution of Megan's Law has continued to be a critical advantage in keeping one's family safe from the risk of sexual misconduct.
